Best astrology app in 2026: an honest, ranked shortlist

There is no single best astrology app. For a daily reading built from your full birth chart, Co-Star, CHANI and Nuvastro are the strongest picks. For live human readers, Sanctuary is the most reasonable starting point. For free, serious chart calculation, Astro.com is still unbeaten on the web. This guide explains how to choose, ranks the main options by what each does best, and lists prices as of October 2026. We make Nuvastro, so we have kept the takes on it as plain as the others.

Checked October 2026. Prices in USD before tax; promotions and regional prices vary. Sources: Co-Star [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]; The Pattern [1] [2] [3] [4]; CHANI [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]; Nebula [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]; Sanctuary [1] [2] [3] [4] [5].

How to choose an astrology app

Start with the basis of the reading. Sun-sign horoscopes are written for one twelfth of the population at once. A natal-chart app calculates where every planet sat at your exact birth time and place, then reads current transits against that map. If you want something that feels personal, the chart basis matters more than anything else.

Next, check the calculation details. Few consumer apps say which house system they use. Among the apps we researched, CHANI states whole-sign houses, TimePassages offers six systems with Placidus as default, Astro.com supports many, and Nuvastro uses Placidus with a whole-sign fallback when your birth time is unknown. For the others the house system is not stated publicly.

Then decide whether you want people or software. Nebula, Sanctuary and Hint sell live sessions with human readers, usually by the minute or by the call. CHANI is written by a team of human astrologers. Co-Star, The Pattern, Nuvastro and TimePassages generate readings from your chart without a live person on the other end.

Finally, look at how you will be billed. Some apps use one clear subscription, some stack add-ons on top of it, and some start with a short paid trial that converts automatically. Read the renewal price before you sign up, not after.

The shortlist, ranked by what each does best

1. Co-Star — best known daily chart app. It builds daily notes from your full natal chart using NASA JPL data and has a very high App Store rating (4.8 from about 206,000 ratings). The free tier includes the full chart. Weak points: English only, and 2026 reviews report more paywalling of features that used to be free.

2. CHANI — best human-written readings. Content is written by astrologer Chani Nicholas and her team, organised by whole-sign houses from your rising sign, with moon and ritual content. It has a confirmed 30-day free trial. The catch is that most meaningful content sits behind the paywall, and the app appears to be English only, though no language list is published.

3. Nuvastro — best for chart plus numerology plus moon calendar in one place, in nine languages. It gives a daily reading from your full natal chart, a chart with Placidus houses and aspects from an astronomical ephemeris, a full numerology profile and a moon calendar with void-of-course times. Honest limits: it is a web app rather than a native app, with no live readers and no AI chat.

4. The Pattern — best for personality and relationship insight without astrology jargon. Its free profile and basic compatibility are unusually generous, and it has an in-house AI conversation feature called In-Depth. Its App Store rating is lower (4.0 from about 16,000 ratings), and pricing is split across several tiers.

The rest of the shortlist

5. Sanctuary — best value for live human readings. It has a free birth chart, daily transits and moon content, and live sessions from $2.99 to $19.99 a minute depending on the reader, with an intro offer for new users. Reviewers praise its ratings and transparent pricing, but also note that a meaningful live reading can still run $20 to $60 or more.

6. Nebula — best for live readers plus wide language support. It offers a free natal chart and daily horoscope, numerology and a moon calendar, and is listed in eight languages. Pricing is the weak point: weekly, monthly and annual tiers are reported inconsistently across sources, and live advisor chat averages around $3 a minute.

7. TimePassages — best app for technical chart work. It offers six selectable house systems including Placidus and whole sign, a moon calendar and a permanent free tier with one chart. Mobile Pro is $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year. It has no numerology and no live readers.

Outside the app stores, two websites deserve a place. Astro.com is the best free deep chart tool, and Cafe Astrology is the best free reading library. Neither sends you a daily personal reading, but both are free and thorough.

Where competitors genuinely win

If you want a native iPhone or Android app with push notifications and a large social network of friends to compare charts with, Co-Star is ahead of Nuvastro. Its friend compatibility features are built around natal data, and its user base is far larger than Nuvastro's, which matters if comparing charts with friends is the point.

If you want to talk to a person, Nuvastro is the wrong choice. It has no live readers. Sanctuary, Nebula and Hint all sell live sessions, and reviewers of Hint point to Sanctuary as offering comparable chat and call services for less.

If you want writing by a named, credentialed astrologer, CHANI wins. If you want to choose between many house systems or study asteroids, Astro.com and TimePassages give you far more control than Nuvastro, which uses Placidus with a whole-sign fallback.

If you prefer sidereal (Vedic) astrology, Moonly uses sidereal calculations by default. Co-Star is confirmed as Western tropical; for most other apps the zodiac is not stated publicly, so check this before you subscribe.

Red flags before you subscribe

Watch for trials that convert at a much higher price. Hint, for example, charges $1 for seven days and then $29.99 a month unless you cancel, and review sites record recurring complaints about billing and cancelling. A trial is fine; a trial you forget about is expensive.

Watch for stacked unlocks. Moonly is widely criticised for charging a separate $14.99 for the birth chart on top of its subscription, with some reviewers saying they spent at least $100 to reach every feature. Co-Star also sells one-time reports and question packs alongside Pro-Star.

Watch for pay-per-minute meters. Live readings can be worth it, but at $2.99 to $19.99 a minute a single conversation can cost more than a year of a chart-only app. Decide your limit before the session starts, not during it.

And watch for vague readings. If a daily note could apply to anyone born in the same month, the app is probably leaning on your sun sign. A chart-based reading should mention specific planets, houses or transits, and it should change when your chart is different from a friend's.

Pricing as of October 2026

Co-Star Pro-Star is $8.99 to $9.99 a month, with a $59.99 annual price reported by a third-party source, plus one-time reports from $2.99 to $11.99. The Pattern Go Deeper+ is $14.99 a month or $29.99 a quarter; its annual price is reported as both $83.99 and $59.99. CHANI Premium is reported at $11.99 to $14.99 a month, after a 30-day free trial.

Nuvastro has a 7-day free trial without a card, then $9.99 a month, $39.99 for six months or $74.99 a year, with local prices in 11 currencies. TimePassages Mobile Pro is $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year. Hint charges $1 for a 7-day trial, then $29.99 a month, with astrologer calls billed separately.

Nebula pricing varies by source and promotion: a weekly plan around $7.99 to $9.99, a monthly plan at $24.99, and annual promo prices of $29.99 to $49.99, plus live advisor fees. Sanctuary+ pricing varies by region and is not stated publicly in a form we could confirm.

Astro.com is free, with an optional ad-free Plus tier at 12.90 USD or EUR a year. Cafe Astrology is free, with optional one-time paid reports whose prices are not stated publicly on the pages we reviewed.

Who each app suits

Pick Co-Star if you want the most popular chart-based daily app, you read English and your friends already use it. Pick CHANI if you value human-written astrology and whole-sign houses and are happy to pay for the full experience after the trial.

Pick Nuvastro if you want astrology, numerology and moon timing in one subscription, you read one of its nine languages, or you are fine using a web app on your phone. Pick The Pattern if you want relationship and personality insight in plain language rather than astrological terms.

Pick Sanctuary or Nebula if live readings are the point, and set a budget before your first session. Pick TimePassages if you study astrology seriously and want control over house systems on your phone.

And whatever app you choose, keep Astro.com and Cafe Astrology bookmarked. They cost nothing and answer most reference questions better than any app.

Common questions

What is the most accurate astrology app?

Accuracy starts with calculation. Astro.com uses the Swiss Ephemeris, the industry-standard engine, and is free. Co-Star uses NASA JPL data, and Nuvastro calculates from astronomical ephemeris data; most other apps do not state their ephemeris publicly. The bigger accuracy factor is usually your birth time — a few minutes off can change your rising sign and houses.

Is there a free astrology app that is actually good?

Yes. Co-Star, Sanctuary and TimePassages all include a real natal chart on their free tiers. The Pattern offers a free personality profile built from your chart, without the chart itself. On the web, Astro.com and Cafe Astrology are free with no subscription. Nuvastro is paid after a 7-day free trial that does not ask for a card.

Which astrology app has real astrologers?

Sanctuary, Nebula and Hint sell live sessions with human readers, billed per minute or per call. CHANI's content is written by human astrologers but does not include live sessions. Co-Star, The Pattern, TimePassages and Nuvastro have no live readers.

Which astrology app is best for beginners?

The Pattern is the easiest if astrology terms put you off, because it avoids them. Co-Star is simple and popular. Nuvastro has a simple mode that keeps the daily reading short and an advanced mode when you want the full chart.

Co-Star or CHANI — which is better?

Co-Star is better if you want a free full chart and a social, friend-based app. CHANI is better if you want readings written by human astrologers using whole-sign houses, and are willing to pay after a 30-day trial.

Try a daily reading built from your full birth chart, plus numerology and the moon calendar, free for 7 days on Nuvastro — no card needed.
